The Drogmi Retreat centre became a reality with settlement on the property occurring on 22 March 2005 - a very auspicious day as it was the anniversary of one of the Five Sakya Founders, Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen. It is a very exciting and historical time – the creation of a new Retreat centre – where everyone can make a contribution. Our contributions are ones that are lasting ones because our efforts now will benefit sentient beings for many years to come, and will also help to remove obstacles in one’s own life.
The property, which comprises 40 acres, is situated within the National Park area on a mountain ridge. The acquisition was completed on an auspicious day, being the anniversary of Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen, one of the five Sakya founders.
At the centre's request, His Holiness Sakya Trizin very kindly bestowed the new retreat centre with the name Drogmi Retreat Centre. His Holiness indicated it would be most favourable to name it after the great Drogmi Lotsawa Shakya Yeshe who studied under Shantipa, Viravajra and Gayadhara and was the first Tibetan recipient of the great Lam Dre teaching.
